In modern society, people always attach much importance on
schooleducation. Some people think that it should be centered on
academic subjects andsome non-academic subjects like music and
sport are not very important for students''future careers.
Personally, I view that both of academic subjects and other
subjectsplay pivotal roles in the development of the students''
comprehensive ability.
Most schools put major emphasis on academic teaching because it
is believed thatacademic subjects can guarantee students better
future careers. It is true that academicsubjects can teach children
some fundamental knowledge and they can get furthereducation and
skills with such knowledge. But I do not think academic learning
cannecessarily ensure better future careers. Academic leaming is
like the fundamental structureof architecture, it can only be
improved and perfected by some other decoraoons, and thatmeans it
is the supplementary subjects that can refine students''
development.
In fact, other subjects such as music and sports are also crucial
to students''development because they can provide many things beyond
academic learning,including teamwork spirit, endurance and healthy
physical body. For example, musiccan make people relaxed and get
inspiration through the power of it; sports can helppeople build
strong wills and bodies, for it shows them the spirit of endurance.
YVhiletaking part in team sports, students also learn to cooperate
and compete with othersand simultaneously foster a strong team
spirit, which is essential for their futuresuccess.
