Poem诗Shi, Calligraphy书Shu, Painting画Huaand Seal印Yin are the four basic elements for an artwork of painting. Usually we put the seal at the end of the calligraphy, and more often below the signature. Some seals can be carved with your own name, while others are carved with idioms or sentences from poems, which reflect or convey your feelings towards life or towards pursuing your spiritual life, such as philosophy, aesthetics as well as literature.
