FOREWORDTibetan ethnic group is an important member of our multi-ethnic country. Tibet Autonomous Region is its main habitation and the birthplace of its culture. Its history is also an important part of the Chinese history. Historically, Tibet, inland provinces and habitations of other ethnic minorities formed mutual economic dependency, close political connection, as well as religious and cultural harmony. Since officially incorporated into the territory of Yuan Dynasty 1206-1368, Tibet has remained under the jurisdiction of the central government of China. Summarizing the basic principles of Tibets development and social governance and finding the experiences and lessons of historical interactions between different ethnic groups will help us inherit and absorb excellent traditional culture, enhance national pride and unite all the people in Tibet. Those efforts will be useful to build Tibet into an important region for characteristic culture protection and to realize the revival of the Chinese nation. This book introduces the history of both the region and Tibetan ethnic group. It is hard to set forth all the stuffs with only 100,000 words. I just outline important events in different periods with concise text to show the main thread of local historical development. The book consults others works and includes many new research results as well.
