《TOEFL和SAT全能书——夯实基础篇》本书重点解决的是考生在考试中会遇到的单词问题，帮助考生提高阅读效率，迅速提分。
因为托福只是一项基本英语能力考试，而 SAT 则是美国高考，所以在选词时，作者选了一些比较难的学者用词。本书里的词语都是环环相扣的，仔细看能看出其内在的关联。
市面上大多数的单词书中例句后面往往跟着中文翻译，这个翻译的存在恰恰让读者产生了一种依赖，而只去记忆关键词，对例句中的其他词语或内在精华不去思考、不去理解，在脑海中还是通过中文去背诵英文，同样的时间内只做了记住关键词这一件事。同时，夹带中文翻译的书浪费了很多的篇幅。本书则不同，例句中不带中文翻译，逼迫学生通过上下文、同义词及衍生词去思考理解，这样做的好处有两个：一是从思考模式中去适应英文语法逻辑，真正习惯用英文思考英文，让考生从内在建立学习外语的环境；二是通过思考，加深印象和理解，同样的时间内既记住了关键词，又联想记忆了衍生词。
